A bill has passed through the Michigan House that will designate more than $4.5 billion to protect water systems.

The proposed bill will dedicate funds to protect water, fund parks, repair roads and remove lead pipes from water systems.

“It started as just a $3 billion package that included some major improvements in our water, and then it actually grew and expanded. We've been working in advocating for this legislation for the better part of last year, and we're really excited to see it get done. It's a huge win for our water.” said the communication director with the Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Nick Dodge.

Dodge also says the measure includes funds for investments towards a more electric vehicle-friendly road system. The bill is currently waiting on the governor's approval.
