Michigan is conducting a feasibility study into using drones for delivery and other commercial operations.

The study looks at creating drone skyways in certain parts of the state, including across the Canadian border into Ontario.

Michael Frezell is a spokesperson for the Michigan Department of Transportation. He says he’s looking forward to expanding commercial drone usage.

“I think this would be great for the citizens of Michigan and the citizens of Canada to be able to have a new transportation medium to transfer goods across the border.”

It’s unclear how long the study will take or how much drone traffic a potential skyway would see.

The state’s contract for the study cost it a little over half-a-million-dollars.
