The governors of five Midwestern states, including Michigan, say they will combine forces to make the region a major destination for electric vehicles.

Governors in Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin signed an agreement that creates the Regional Electric Vehicle Midwest Coalition, known as “REV Midwest.”

The bipartisan plan involves building a network of charging stations across the Midwest, that would especially power medium and heavy-duty electric vehicles.

The states will also coordinate so drivers face the same regulations regarding charging.

The governors say the moves should help draw electric vehicle production to the Midwest.

They add that transitioning to electric power will help eliminate toxic emissions that hit communities located near highways or shipping facilities hard.
