The Michigan legislature is weighing whether to prohibit employers from mandating that unvaccinated workers wear masks.

All state government employees and contractors in Michigan must wear a mask indoors starting Monday.

The mask mandate covers those working inside state buildings, whether or not they’ve been vaccinated against COVID-19.

There are a few exemptions, for those working remotely by themselves in an enclosed space, or who need to read lips.

Wearing masks remains a contentious issue in Michigan.

State health officials recommended that students and faculty wear masks at schools but stopped short of ordering that it be done.
