Kwame Kilpatrick associate Bobby Ferguson has been granted compassionate release, months after Kilpatrick’s sentence was commuted by former President Donald Trump.

Ferguson was sentenced to 21 years in prison for extortion and bribery, among other charges.

He has hypertension, high cholesterol, and reduced lung capacity, conditions that could make him more vulnerable to COVID-19.

In her opinion, Judge Nancy Edmunds wrote that it would be “inequitable” for Ferguson to remain in prison after Kilpatrick was granted clemency.

Ferguson is still responsible for the $6.2 million dollars in restitution to the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department.
