Michigan’s COVID-19 mask requirement now applies to children as young as two-years old.
That public health order came from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services in Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s administration.
It maintains a 50% occupancy limit and distancing requirements at restaurants and event centers, as well as testing for participants in youth sports.
An extension of the existing order was expected, but the mask requirement covering two- to four-year-olds is new. It comes as Whitmer is pleading for people to get vaccinated and to practice measures to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
But Whitmer is disregarding calls from federal health authorities to re-impose other restrictions and shut down some activities amid a surge statewide in COVID cases.
