The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone celebrating New Year’s Eve with friends to have a plan to get home safely.
Sheriff’s deputies will be looking for signs of intoxication such as erratic driving and missed traffic signals.
Undersheriff Chuck Heit suggests making a plan before any drinking occurs.
“Our main focus is for people to have a plan ahead of time because where people make poor decisions is when they don't have a plan and they try and make a decision after they've been drinking and a lot of times, their judgment is not the best and they make a poor decision.”
Heit says he expects to see fewer New Year’s Eve celebrations because so many businesses are closed.
He says more residents may be meeting in private locations.
