The first day of school looms for teachers and students in Michigan. Many districts are still working on their plans for both in-person and online courses.
Last week Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed legislation to provide a framework for schools. She says it’s important for districts to have flexibility.
“That's why it can't be a one size fits all. These are decisions that have to be made at the local level with parents and with unions to ensure the safety of the workforce and of course, centered around the safety of our students.”
Whitmer says she’s concerned about students returning to college campuses given that there has been an increase in the number of Covid-19 infections in young adults.
Whitmer added that students need to mask up and socially distance themselves.
