Michigan’s college towns are making plans to welcome back tens of thousands of students...many who’ve been away since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This week the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity will host a series of webinars for retailers, bars, restaurants and other businesses in seven Michigan college towns to show them how to reopen safety.

Director Jeff Donofrio says it’s critical to ensure that businesses in college towns know how to protect their employees, customers and communities from COVID-19.

How many students will be at those college town bars and other businesses this fall remains unclear.

Michigan universities are offering a mix of in-person and online courses. But Michigan State University’s president has suggested students who can stay home should do so.
