Some state lawmakers are looking to relax Michigan’s rules on carrying concealed pistols.

The legislation would make Michigan’s concealed gun laws a lot more like the open-carry firearm rules.  Open carry in Michigan does not require a license.

Republican state Representative Beau LaFave says right now, it’s too easy for well-intentioned gun owners to run afoul of the law.

Linda Brundage is with the Michigan Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence. She says the availability of guns – concealed or not – makes it more likely shots will be fired, and people hurt or killed. Her group says the law should remain as it is. Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, is also on the record opposing the legislation.
