A fifth county in northern Michigan has passed a resolution supporting Enbridge's proposed tunnel under the Straits of Mackinac.

Cheboygan County adopted the resolution at its meeting Tuesday.

The board of commissioners supports Enbridge's replacement of a section of the Line 5 twin oil pipelines. It would be housed in a tunnel through bedrock. Right now, the pipelines sit on the lake bed.

It's nearly identical to a resolution already passed by Dickinson, Iron, Gogebic and Grand Traverse counties. Commissioner Steve Warfield introduced the resolution. He said he believes it speaks for itself

“I’ve certainly listened to both sides of the equation and this is OUR decision we’ve reached today."

22 people spoke in opposition to the resolution. No one spoke in support.
