Maternity nurses at Munson Medical Center are upset about changes to their work schedules after they unionized.

It appears the hospital in Traverse City broke contract agreements with nurses.Supervisors in the OB unit changed on-call schedules. In response, nurses sent a letter to the hospital, asking for more transparency with scheduling.

Forty Two of the Fifty Two nurses in the OB department signed it. Katie Grice (Gr-ICE) is one of the OB nurses. She says she was on-call while working between back-to-back shifts.

"I theoretically could have worked a total of 32 hours in a 36 hour period, which isn’t even possible. It would’ve given me only 4 hours of rest time in-between shifts.”

A rep from Munson says they were following contract agreements.

The contract, obtained by IPR, says the union must be notified of schedule changes.

In this case, the union says it wasn’t.
