The home-town Penske team had a satisfying Saturday, and a frustrating Sunday, during this weekend’s twin Detroit Grand Prix Indycar races on Belle Isle.

Penske driver Josef Newgarden took home the victory during the rainy Race One of the Detroit Indycar doubleheader.

Newgarden made a pit stop right before a crash occurred, allowing him to move to first place when other cars came in for fuel and tires.

Five-time Indycar champion Scott Dixon (renowned for his prowess on twisty tracks like Belle Isle) made a rare mistake, crashed, and finished in last place.

Dixon made amends during the sunny Race Two of the doubleheader, taking the lead and then holding on to it after a late accident brought the race to a temporary halt in the closing stages.

This time it was Penske driver Newgarden’s turn to spin out.

The victory marks Dixon’s third win on Belle Isle.
