Outgoing Governor Rick Snyder delivered his “Exit Interview” Friday afternoon at a meeting of the Detroit Economic Club.

In his speech, the Governor touted his accomplishments, including expanding Medicaid eligibility, improving the state’s economy, and helping Detroit out of bankruptcy.

Snyder also emphasized the importance of treating political opponents with respect. He echoed those comments when talking to reporters after the event.

“Well I do view the lack of civility in our country as the greatest threat to our nation. I’ve been saying that consistently for the last year. And we need to speak up more not just talking about the need for civility but being good role models for it. And that’s where I’m proud. If you go look at my track record. How many people have I criticized, how many people have I called names in all these years? And haven’t we gotten a lot done by not doing that?”

Snyder did not mention the Flint Water Crisis in his speech. He says he looks forward to being a private citizen again, adding that he won’t be active in Michigan politics.
