A grassroots movement to change the state constitution says it believes the question will appear on the November ballot. The effort to prevent partisan gerrymandering, or drawing political district boundaries to favor a certain candidates or parties, has faced an uphill battle so far. But Katie Fahey, Executive Director of the group Voters Not Politicians, says attempts to delay the effort by pro-gerrymandering interests is not working.

Fahey says her organization-received word Tuesday that staff has recommended the ballot question be approved by the State Board of Canvassers. If approved by voters, the state constitution would mandate that a bipartisan panel meet every 10 years to set political district boundaries. Opponents of the ballot measure say the initiative is a political ploy by the Democratic Party and would require a constitutional convention.
