Following an unseasonably warm September and October you may welcome the cooler temperatures we’ve been experiencing. You may even be pleased to know the first snowfall of the season will likely come Monday night in parts of the northern Lower Peninsula.
Colder air is spilling in and meteorologists say it’s already creating some lake effect snow in higher elevations of the state.
Mike Kurz is a National Weather Service meteorologist. He said some areas of central northern lower Michigan could see up to two inches of wet heavy snow by Tueday morning.
“It looks like right now no significant accumulations but given that this will be likely the first somewhat of an accumulation of snow for much of the area this season it could bring some impact especially for the Tuesday morning commute”.
Kurz said this winter could be slightly more severe than normal.
“This winter it is looking like temperatures will probably trend slightly below normal or near normal. In terms of precipitation it looks like we’re going to see slightly wetter than normal conditions. That could translate into snowfall being near or slightly above normal for the course of the entire winter”.
