High school athletes and their parents continue to advocate for opening up sports. The group ‘Let Them Play’ has hired a law firm to explore suing the state in order to open up sports like basketball.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer says sports will resume when it’s safe.

“Whether it is context sports, or it is bumping up that number for in person dining, I mean, these are actions that will increase contacts and could create spread and that's why we have to be really smart and incremental. As we move forward. We're making progress”

An outbreak of the new more-contagious B-117 strain of Covid-19 started within University of Michigan athletes. In response, U of M shut down athletics for two weeks. A total of 17 people have tested positive for the variant in the state so far.
