Sparrow Hospital in Lansing has begun allowing COVID-19 patients to have visitors.

Last week, Sparrow became the only hospital in the state allowing patients recovering from COVID-19 to receive visitors.

Dr. Lane is the Chair of the Surgery Department at Sparrow Hospital. She says this new rule is allowing the hospital to create the environment to help someone heal.

“A daughter came in and she sat by her mom's bedside, and she massaged her hands and painted her nails. And, you know, that was so uplifting for all of the staff to be able to, to see that and see how settled her mother was,”

Dr. Lane says every visitor is taught how to use a breathing device that is put over their head connected to oxygen. So far, more than 50 visitors have been able to spend time with a loved one recovering from COVID.
