In a time of uncertainty Central Michigan University college of medicine this fall launched a program to provide help for rural senior citizens in Michigan.
The college of medicine is partnering with area hospitals and councils of aging to form Rural Older Adult Mobile care to help reach more senior citizens.
Professor in Chair of Discipline of Medicine at CMU Dr. Sethu Reddy said they hope to reach 100 total adults enrolled by the end of 2021.
“The pandemic just shows you how important it is for people to stay connected, even virtually,” Reddy said. “I think this is going to jumpstart the process of providing telecare, telemedicine to our older adults in the rural community.”
The program is funded through a more than $400,000 grant from the Michigan Health Endowment fund. It’s funded through 2023.
“The aim is to prove to the Michigan Health Endowment fund that such a program not only protects older adults but is cost effective,” Reddy said. “The grant allows us to set up a system and prove that it works.”
