Those dealing with the impacts of high water levels on the Great Lakes may not get much relief.

"Lakes Michigan and Huron saw some of the highest water levels in recorded history this summer, peaking in July.

And, although they are supposed to drop several inches by February, the lakes are expected to remain two-and-a-half to three feet above the long-term average.

Keith Kompoltowicz of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says this is a concerning way to start the season.

“In the fall, across the Great Lakes, we see very strong storm systems that are often accompanied by very strong winds that create very high waves along the Great Lakes.”

He says flooding and erosion could be a problem throughout the region.
