First day of fall brings record breaking temperatures for northern Michigan

Today is the first official day of fall, but by walking outside you certainly wouldn't know it.

Communities throughout northern lower Michigan saw record breaking temperatures today.

Andy Sullivan is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Gaylord.  He said all six of their monitoring sites hit records today - That’s Gaylord, Sault Saint Marie, Alpena, Traverse City, Houghton Lake, and Pellston.

“For instance Traverse City was 95 for their high today. They broke the old record set back in 1937, a long time ago, which was 90. So, by quite a few degrees that’s pretty impressive”.

Sullivan said they’re predicting record temperatures tomorrow, Sunday, and possibly Monday as well.
