The State of Michigan is offering a rebate program to upgrade exterior lights on public properties.
The rebate will help municipalities, public schools, and public universities with the costs associated with upgrading exterior lights to LED fixtures.
The rebate is available on a first come first serve basis.
“This is now available to those public entities and that will help them take their inefficient lighting and replace it with efficient LED’s and they will immediately see a reduction on their bill,” said Judy Palnau with the Michigan Agency for Energy.
Palnau said this will cut energy bills now and well into the future.
“The first time ever the Michigan Energy Office has offered a rebate that they themselves have run. So it is new, and it’s result of requests from public entities that have told the energy office we want this.”
Palnau said last year, Detroit became the first city to have 100 percent LED street lights, and the hope is to get more public entities to do the same.
