Federal assistance is now available to four mid Michigan counties after President Trump Wednesday approved federal disaster designations.

Bay, Gladwin, Isabella, and Midland counties were hit with heavy flooding at the end of June.

The President’s declaration allows residents and businesses in those counties to apply for federal assistance.

Assistance has also been made available to the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe in Isabella County.

The damage to governmental facilities did not reach the federal threshold for assistance, but a press release from Governor Rick Snyder’s office urged local governments to apply for state grants.

In a written statement Governor Rick Snyder said the declaration was quote “an important step in our continuing efforts… to help Michigan families and businesses recover from the effects of this disaster.”
