Kalamazoo Schools Superintendent Michael Rice says Michigan is at “a generational moment” for education.

Rice will soon become Michigan’s Superintendent of Public Instruction after 12 years as Kalamazoo’s superintendent. Rice says he understands the job doesn’t come with a lot of power

Rice says the main issues facing the state right now, are funding for public schools, early childhood education, literacy, career and technical education and a shortage of teachers. Rice is expected to begin work as state superintendent in July.
