SVSU welcomes Yale Professor to speak on Muslim American communities

Saginaw Valley State University is hosting a lecture Thursday night  highlighting intolerance and scrutiny faced in Muslim-American communities.

 

Professor Zareena Grewal will talk about her research in Muslim communities across the country.

 

Grewal is an author, documentary filmmaker, and a Yale professor. She studies race, gender, religion, and nationalism in Muslim American communities.

 

J.J. Boehm is with Saginaw Valley State University. He said this lecture is important in starting a dialogue about religion.

 

“Being able to examine issues tied to the Muslim faith and the role of Muslim individuals in American communities is a very important topic and is something that merits conversation. And it’s through lecture opportunities such as this that dialogue and conversation can begin.”

 

Boehm said this lecture is important to start a dialague in light of recent events in New Zealand.

 

Professor Grewal will speak Thursday night at 6:30 in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall.
