The Mecosta County Board of Commissioners will furlough 78 county workers on Friday in efforts to save money and help the workers.

The furlough is estimated to save the county more than $16,000 a week.

Mecosta county administrator Paul Bullock said the move will help the county and the workers.

“It’s an opportunity for the county to retain resources, that we will need, when we are able to fully engage again. While at the same time holding our employees harmless through utilization of state and federal programs.”

Bullock said the furlough is not a layoff, but workers will have reduced work week. All while maintaining their benefits through the county.
