Mackinac Island businesses have pushed their openings to late May in response to coronavirus.
Normally islanders are getting ready for an influx of visitors at the end of April, but due to coronavirus, business openings have been put on hold until May.
Todd Callewaert owns seven businesses on Mackinac Island including: Ryba's Fudge Shop and the Island House Hotel. He said coronavirus is shortening the tourism season.
“It’s a very fluid situation as of right now, we have a tentative open date of May 22nd. I highly doubt that will happen. We are looking more towards June as a more realistic time.”
Callewaert said the planned opening date is based on Governor Whitmer’s decision to start reopening the state on May 1st.
