A northern Michigan food company is ramping up production to feed kids all across the country.
Albie’s Food Company in Otsego County provides individually wrapped sandwiches for schools. Now that schools are shut down and trying to feed students stuck at home, demand has skyrocketed.
The company normally produces 60,000 sandwiches a day. Today they’re churning out 100,000 a day
Jamie Phillips said Albie’s employees take their jobs to heart.
“We actually were scheduled for a spring break shut down, this week. Our employees stepped up to the plate and came back to work just to serve all these orders and all these school districts.”
Phillips said next week they will be increasing their work days to meet the recent, high demand.
Phillips said the company is providing meals to schools in the 48 contiguous states. He said he feels the company has an obligation to continue to help feed hungry students.
