More than $400-thousand dollars in state grant funding is going toward supporting new jobs in Mackinac County.
A company called Graymont is a leading supplier of limestone in Michigan. They want to redevelop a limestone quarry in Mackinac for mining and crushing the stone.
The development will create 45 new jobs.
Michael Leon is the program manager of the Economic Transportation Development Fund. He said the grant funding will go toward updating a nearby road.
“Going to be building for westbound trucks going to the quarry. They’re going to be building a right turn lane at Borgstrom Road so that the trucks can get out of the flow of traffic as they turn onto Borgstrom Road.”
Leon said flashing motion-sensing signs will also be installed so motorists are warned when trucks are coming.
