600-thousand dollars in grants from the state Department of Transportation will allow companies in Gladwin and Sanillac counties to expand their operations.

The grants will be used to upgrade roadways that are currently not suited for winter use by heavy trucks.  They’ll allow Kember Kreative Interiors Inc. in Gladwin, and Huron Inc. in Sanilac to update and expand their facilities.

Together, the two companies are pouring another 18 million dollars into the effort.

Michael Leon is program manager for the Michigan Transportation Economic Development Fund.

“Both of these are really great case if private public partnerships making it possible in part for these companies to create jobs and have some private investment in Michigan.”

Leon said the two companies will create 206 jobs through their expansions over the next three years.
