Shakespeare wrote “I would give all my fame for a pot of ale” … you can look it up in “As You Like It”. The city of Alpena is using the Bard’s fame to entice people to enjoy a pint …or four…of beer.
The community’s first ever Shakespearean bar crawl is scheduled for Thursday.
“Bard at the Bar” takes participants to four locations in downtown Alpena. Each bar offers a special drink, and a live performance of a scene from one of Shakespeare’s play.
Anne Gentry is the executive director of the Alpena Downtown Development Authority.
“So the four plays that will be featured will be The Tempest, Taming of the Shrew, Much Ado About Nothing, and the Merry Wives of Windsor.”
Gentry said the night will end with all the performers tackling the classic, Romeo and Juliet.
