Coming up today at noon on The Beat, music and conversation with Kenny Barron before his concert January 30 at Wharton Center for Performing Arts plus looking back 60 years to the Coltrane classic Giant Steps!

This week on "The Juke Joint" broadcast, the Duke of Juke Robert Barclay shared an evening of soulful gospel singing along with songs from the civil rights movement for Dr Martin Luther King, Jr's birthday. We heard from Aretha, Mavis & Pops, Mahalia, Sam, Clara, Sister Rosetta and Rev. Gary, among others. 

This week on "Homespun" we heard new music from Volume Five, Michael Cleveland, and Rick Farris'  (Special Consensus) new solo release. We also got saved with The Soul Stirrers and Mahalia Jackson, plus we looked back 50 years to 1970 and Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" recording!


This week on "The Beat", honoring Detroit pianist Barry Harris after he was honored this week at The Jazz Congress in New York. We also looked back to 1965 with Jackie McLean and 1960 with Wes Montgomery and debut CDs from John Bailey, Eric Lilly, and Erik Jekabson Music!!

This week on "Destination out", Mike Johnston will be featuring unusual tracks in the context of an album. We heard from Charles Mingus, Ginger Baker, Elvin Jones, and others!
