Midland Center for the Arts

Midland Center for the Arts will present a film and panel discussion on the life of civil rights activist Grace Lee Boggs.  The Midland Center Chorale and Bella Voce Choir will present a commissioned work from composer Joel Thompson about three civil rights figures from Detroit, including Boggs, Saturday November 9.  Katie Miller and Matt Travis joined David Nicholas on Mosaic for a preview.


On Tuesday November 5, the CMU School of Music welcomes guest artists, The Westhuizen Duo, in concert at the Staples Family Concert Hall.  Pierre van der Westhuizen spoke recently with David Nicholas, host of Mosaic, about his musical career and musical partnership with his wife Sophie.


The Midland Symphony Orchestra presents their next concert in their 2019-2020 season on Saturday, November 2. “My Homeland” celebrates the heritage of Music Director and Conductor Bohuslav Ruttay.  Two works from Czech composer Antonin Dvorak will be on the program.  The orchestra will be joined by soloist Simone Porter for the Violin Concerto by Jean Sibelius. The conductor and soloist joined David Nicholas during Mosaic for a concert preview.


CMU’s School of Music presents jazz Sunday November 3 with concerts from Jazz Central at 2 pm and Jazz Lab I at 5 pm.  Rob Smith, Professor of Jazz Studies at CMU, joined David Nicholas during Mosaic for a preview.


Central Michigan University’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble performs its first concert of the season on Tuesday, October 29 at 7:30 at Staples Family Concert Hall.  It will also be their first concert conducted by the new Director of Bands, Dr. Christopher Chapman.  Dr. Chapman joined Mosaic host David Nicholas for an in studio meet and greet and a concert preview.
