Michigan National Guard Soldiers who purchased meals out of pocket while they were deployed at the U.S. Capitol are being reimbursed. Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a bill into law today [FRIDAY].

Governor Gretchen Whitmer made a stop in Washington DC on Friday to visit Michigan National Guard troops.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer has activated Michigan National Guard units ahead of protests expected Sunday at the state Capitol. The coordinated law enforcement effort also includes the FBI and local police departments.

Lansing’s mayor is asking the governor to activate the Michigan National Guard in the city next week.

Armed protests are expected to take place in all 50 state capitals ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.

The Michigan National Guard is expanding its humanitarian mission to provide relief during the COVID-19 outbreak.

On Monday, President Trump approved the state’s request to use up to 3,000 troops for up 90 days to assist local agencies in need of help. 

Sergeant First Class Andrew Kohtala is leading a small contingent of soldiers at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan in Flint.  He said their presence gives the staff a sense of security.
