Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is continuing to challenge the constitutionality of a state agreement with Enbridge energy to build a tunnel to house the line 5 pipeline.

The state is requesting more information about Enbridge’s line 5 pipeline in the Straits of Mackinac. Officials want to know whether the company has complied with its 1953 easements with the state.

Three states have filed an amicus  brief on behalf of Michigan in its suit to have the Line 5 pipeline beneath the straits of Mackinac decommissioned.

Five Michigan tribes could bring a lawsuit against Enbridge Energy if state efforts to remove the line 5 pipeline from the straits fail.
