Five months after a devastating flood destroyed much of the village of Sanford some residents say they’re bouncing back - others say they’re just doing their best to prepare for winter.

Nearly two months after a dam break and devastating flood buried the village of Sanford in water and mud, residents are doing their best to rebuild.

Curious Gladwin county residents are being advised to stay out of the bed of the now-empty Wixom Lake.

Dow Chemical confirmed flood waters have reached the plant’s on-site containment ponds, on Wednesday May 20.

"The material from the pond commingling with the flood waters does not create any threat to residents or environmental damage," the company wrote on Facebook. 

Their headquarters in Midland has activated its local emergency operations center. A flood preparedness plan is being implemented.
