Kalamazoo is cutting its ties to Southwest Michigan First. City commissioners pulled out of the regional economic development agency Monday night. That's after it picked former State House speaker Lee Chatfield as its new CEO. Commissioner Erin Knott says Chatfield - a Republican - isn't the kind of person the city wants or needs:

Kalamazoo to ban conversion therapy

Kalamazoo Vice Mayor Erin Knott says she plans to pursue a ban on conversion therapy in the city. Knott, who is also Executive Director of the LGBTQ advocacy group Equality Michigan says ultimately there should be a statewide ban. The Huntington Woods City Commission approved an ordinance last week that makes the practice of trying to alter a person’s sexual orientation a civil infraction. Knott says Kalamazoo should follow suit:
