Juke Joint

  • This week on "The Juke Joint" broadcast it’s Mardi Gras in New Orleans and southern Louisiana. We’ll hear music by Professor Longhair, Fats Domino, Irma Thomas, the Neville Brothers, Clifton Chenier, Bobby Charles, the Treme Brass Band, Rusty & Doug Kershaw, Fats Domino, Marcia Ball, Lee Dorsey and the Balfa Brothers. I’ll also do a tribute to the late Huey “Piano” Smith, a wonderful songwriter and pianist.
  • This week on “The Juke Joint” broadcast, Robert Barclay spins the Grammy-winning CDs by Edgar Winter, Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder. He also celebrates the centennial birthday of drummer, Baby Face Leroy Foster, and his work with Little Walter and Muddy Waters and he debuts new CDs by Joe Louis Walker, Crazy Chestur and Canadian Matt Andersen.
  • This week on “The Juke Joint” broadcast Robert Barclay notes the passing of singer & songwriter Barrett Strong who recorded Motown’s first hit, “Money," back in 1960 and co-wrote some great tunes by the Temptations. He also celebrates the centennial birthdays of delta blues guitarist Joe Willie Wilkins and Chicago bluesman Eddie Taylor along with some new releases by Ruthie Foster and Eddie 9V.
  • This week on “The Juke Joint” broadcast Robert Barclay features Louisiana blues, Cajun and zydeco music. He includes music by CJ Chenier, Beausoleil, Lazy Lester, Chubby Carrier, Buckwheat Zydeco, Steve Riley, the Lost Bayou Ramblers, John Mooney, Rosie Ledet, Katie Webster and Terrance Simien.

We’ll hear from Buddy Guy, Shemekia Copeland, John Mayall, Eric Gales, Edgar Winter, Gov’t Mule, Ben Harper, the North Mississippi All-Stars, Charlie Musselwhite, Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder. He will also note the passing of guitarist Jeff Beck including his work with the Yardbirds.

We’ll hear from Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the Staple Singers, the Blind Boys of Alabama, the Fairfield Four, Mahalia Jackson, Ruthie Foster, Dorothy Love Coates, the Clara Ward Singers and Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers.

He also debuted new CDs by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Vanessa Collier, Mud Morganfield and the Durham County Poets; celebrated the 94th birthday of Jimmy Johnson and played some more music by Jerry Lee Lewis.
