Whitmer blasts Trump just before Michigan visit

Governor Gretchen Whitmer leveled sharp words today (THU) against President Donald Trump over his handling of the COVID-19 crisis.

Whitmer has already been critical of the Trump administration’s response to COVID-19. But her words took on a harsher tone following the release of journalist Bob Woodward’s taped interviews with the President, where Trump acknowledged downplaying the severity of the crisis.

“They knew," says Whitmer. "They didn’t tell us.”

Whitmer said that deception cost lives.

“And I think the biggest enemy of the state right now is the misinformation that’s coming right now out of the head of state,” Whitmer says.

Whitmer’s comments came just before a Trump campaign visit to Michigan, a state the president won by a fraction of a percentage point four years ago.
