A report by the U.S. Senate has detailed the deficiencies of the Capitol Police in responding to the January 6th insurrection.Among them are intelligence breakdowns in the days before the riot and a lack of preparation for Capitol Police officers.
Senator Gary Peters chairs the Homeland Security committee that authored the report. He says this investigation was limited in scope.
“It was not in any way meant to replace commission that can do a more in-depth analysis, not just the what happened on the day of the attack on January 6, but also look at what motivated groups of individuals to come here with such a hostile intent.”
Senate Republicans have, thus far, prevented the formation of a commission to fully investigate the insurrections and who might have provoked the attack.
