US Senate bill would expand access to housing assistance to veterans during pandemic

Harriseye

US Senator Gary Peters on Thursday introduced legislation to expand access to a housing allowance for veterans during the pandemic.

Currently, in order to access their full housing allowance veterans must meet their apprenticeship hours.

US Senator Gary Peters said the pandemic has caused many of those apprenticeships to end.

“So many veterans are now not getting the hours in the apprenticeship program because of the closures related to the pandemic and as a result, they’re losing the GI bill benefits that help pay for housing.

Peters’ legislation would allow veterans to continue to receive benefits for up to 120 days after being laid off.
