Police say a suspect connected to the robbery of an Ogemaw County bank is now in custody.
Michigan State Police officials said they captured a suspect they believe is connected to the robbery in Ogemaw County. The suspect is a 31 year old man from Bay City.
1st Lt. David Kaiser is with the Michigan State Police. He said bomb threats were sent to businesses, hospitals, and schools in Arenac, Iosco, Ogemaw, Crawford, and Roscommon counties.
“While officers were responding to each of those bomb threats to make sure it was safe a bank, the Rose City Mercantile Bank, was robbed,” Kaiser said.
He said it will take time to determine whether the bank robbery and bomb threats are connected.
“This very well could be connected to the bank robbery that took place in Rose City we just haven’t gathered enough evidence to support that just yet,” Kaiser said.
According to Kaiser, the bomb threats did not appear to be credible. Local police in Iosco and Roscommon counties were able to confirm that their threats were not valid.
Kaiser said police identified the robbery suspect’s truck and pulled it over. The suspect fled on foot before being taken down by a K-9 unit. .
