Survey shows increased interest in electric vehicles

A survey by Triple A shows an increasing number of people are interested in driving electric vehicles.

The survey found that 20 percent of people, or 50 million Americans, want their next vehicle to be electric. That’s up from 15 percent in last year.

As the technology grows and electric vehicles become safer, drive farther, and hold charges longer, people are more accepting of the changing technology.

Susan Hiltz is the public affairs director for AAA Michigan. She said while more people want them, there are a number of concerns drivers have with electric vehicles.

“Not enough places to charge your vehicle that’s a detractor. Running out of charge while you’re driving is another concern, and this seems to be less of a concern especially for millenials.”

Hiltz said there was a lot of skepticism about electric vehicles when they came out, but the annual trend shows more acceptance every year.
