A conference entitled "the State of Flint Kids" finds progress in the five years since the peak of the city’s water crisis.

But speakers say more needs to be done to lift children out of poverty and improve access to nutritious food.

Doctor Mona Hanna-Attisha is a leading advocate for Flint children.

She told attendees at Friday's conference that more needs to be done for Flint kids.

“We need to all work together to make sure that the place of a child’s birth does not predict where they end up.”

Speakers pointed out that Flint children faced many challenges before the city’s water crisis.

Since the water crisis, more Flint kids have access to health care and pre-school education.
