As the number of coronavirus infections in Michigan continues to climb, local hospitals are experiencing the effects of what some health officials are calling the third wave of COVID-19 in the state.
Amy Brown is the chief nursing officer at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. She says the hospital is at 100% capacity.
“So it was very disappointing to watch those numbers climb so quickly. And with that, you know, it is you're needing more staff.”
To help prevent the healthcare system from becoming overwhelmed, Brown is asking the community to prioritize getting vaccinated for COVID-19. So far, the hospital hasn’t treated any patients who are fully vaccinated.
