Simon Preliminary Exam Continues in Charlotte

Former Michigan State University president Lou Anna Simon was back in court in Eaton County Tuesday for the continuation of her preliminary exam.

The Michigan Attorney General’s office says Simon lied to investigators about when she knew of disgraced former sports physician Larry Nasser's criminal sexual conduct.  Simon maintains she didn’t hear Nasser's name until 2016, but the prosecution claims it can prove that she knew about Nasser as early as 2014.

Simon’s attorney, Lee Silver, spent much of the day cross-examining a Michigan State Police detective who interviewed Simon in May 2018.  Silver says he’s satisfied with the outcome.

“My goal today was to establish that there’s no evidence – not a shred of evidence that anybody mentioned Larry Nassar to Lou Anna Simon in 2014, and I think that goal was accomplished.”

The hearing resumes July 12.  It will be up to Judge Julie Reincke to determine if Lou Anna Simon will be bound over for trial.
