Local government programs in Metro Detroit are getting caught up in the budget impasse at the state Capitol.
Oakland County could lose millions of dollars after Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s line-item budget vetoes.
Whitmer’s vetoes have had an outsized impact on rural areas of the state. But Oakland County Commission Chairman Dave Woodward says Metro Detroit isn’t immune.
“When you cut a billion dollars out of the state budget, you’re going to impact everybody.
Woodward says Oakland County itself stands to lose about four or five million dollars if the funding isn’t restored. That includes funding for law enforcement, jails, childcare, environmental protections, and more.
Whitmer and Republican lawmakers introduced bills this week to restore some of the funding cut from the new budget.
