Michigan State University has a new, temporary, president. This comes two days after Lou Anna Simon stepped down in the wake of the Larry Nassar scandal.

MSU has been accused of ignoring complaints from students who say they were sexually assaulted by former school sports doctor Larry Nassar. Now, the Board of Trustees is trying to right the ship.

Vice President Brian Beekman will be MSU’s acting president. That will give the board time to choose an interim president. From there, it’ll conduct a national search for a permanent president.

Beekman says he accepted the job because he’s loyal to the school and wants to help.

“I think the university’s had some tough times. And anything I can do to make that better, I feel is important.”

At the meeting, the board members apologized to survivors and promised to do better.
