Police in East Lansing are investigating an off-campus shooting that killed a Michigan State University student from Texas.

East Lansing police say it happened early this morning at the 25 East Apartments on Abbot Road.

Officers answered a shots fired call at around 2:44 a.m.

Police say a 22 year-old male was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound and later died.

East Lansing Police Captain Chad Connelly says the department wouldn't release any more information about the victim in respect for his family.

“They’re in the process of making arrangements to take care of the things that they need to attend to at this point. We’re not gonna release any information out of respect for them to make sure that we’re doing our due diligence and serving the victim, his family, and making sure we do a thorough investigation.”

The department didn’t release any information about a possible suspect or motive but say the public isn’t at risk.
