Michigan is joining almost two-dozen other states suing the Trump Administration, over its efforts to stop California from setting fuel emission standards.

For decades California has regulated how much pollution cars and trucks can produce on its crowded roadways.

But the Trump Administration wants to ease emission requirements set under President Obama…and issued new regulations that pre-empt California’s authority to set its own standards.

Now Michigan and 21 other states…as well as the cities of New York and Los Angeles…are joining a lawsuit supporting California.

Though automakers have long wanted a single national standard…the Ford Motor Company…Volkswagen…B-M-W and Honda reached a deal months ago recognizing California’s right to set its own standards.

The Justice Department is investigating that deal for potential anti-trust violations.
